Election fraud claimed in Serbia
An opposition group, Serbia Against Violence, on Monday refused to recognize the results of an early official vote count suggesting a victory for President Aleksandar Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party. The opposition group said it was robbed of a victory. Political tensions rose Monday in Belgrade, Serbia’s capital, where a group shouting “thieves” gathered in front of the state election commission headquarters.
Why did they claim fraud? Independent media and election monitors claimed various irregularities—saying, for instance, that ethnic Serbs were brought into Belgrade from neighboring country Bosnia to vote. Vučić and the Serbian Progressive Party have denied the accusations. The opposition group said it would lodge official complaints in addition to street protests.
