South Korean leader urges international cooperation against North Korea
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Thursday advocated for the U.S.-led security alliance between the two countries and Japan to counter the threat posed by North Korea. Yoon spoke before both chambers of Congress, recounting the shared history of the U.S. and South Korea in the Korean War and touting the countries’ close trade relationship in the tech field.
Is the U.S. taking steps to address North Korea? The U.S. and South Korea announced an agreement for dealing with North Korea, in which the U.S. will be periodically docking nuclear submarines in South Korea to help deter a North Korean nuclear attack. The U.S. will also increase South Korea’s involvement in its nuclear planning. In return, South Korea has agreed not to develop its own nuclear arsenal.
