Dozens drown in Mozambique as ferry sinks

At least 97 people died and 11 suffered injuries in the disaster Sunday, according to a report by state-operated Radio Mozambique. According to the administrator of the Island of Mozambique, Silvério Nauaito, government workers, officials, and other responders continue to search the waters for other bodies.

What happened? According to officials, the boat was classified as a fishing vessel, and its passengers were leaving the administrative post at Lunga, Mozambique for the nearby Island of Mozambique. On the way, the boat sank. It was carrying roughly 130 people, according to state radio. The Anglican Angola London Mozambique Association requested prayers for people in Nampula, Mozambique, in response to the disaster.
