Dozens dead, injured after train crash in India

A train that stopped for repairs Sunday evening was hit by another oncoming train, according to police in India. The crash caused two train cars to derail. At least 13 people were killed, and 25 people suffered injuries. It is not the first fatal train wreck to happen in India this year. More than 270 people died in a three-train collision earlier this summer due to a scheduling error.

How did the wreck happen? A statement from India’s railway ministry blamed human error for the wreck. By late Monday, government officials said rescue efforts were complete, and workers had begun repairing the track. More than 12 million people in India daily ride across roughly 40,000 miles of railroad tracks.
