Container ship Dali sails for first time since Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse

The container ship took off on Monday for Norfolk, Va., under a U.S. military escort, according to a statement from the U.S. Coast Guard. The Dali crashed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge on the morning of March 26 after losing power twice while sailing out of port the day before. The vessel suffered blackouts again, moments before it crashed. The crash destroyed part of the bridge, which collapsed onto the ship. The incident also killed six road workers.

Why is the Dali sailing to Norfolk? The ship will head to the Norfolk International Terminal where it will receive repairs for damage it suffered from crashing into the bridge, the U.S. Coast Guard reported. On its way to Norfolk, the ship is scheduled to deliver 1,500 cargo containers to the Virginia International Gateway in Portsmouth, Va.
