Prudeness in social media is a wise choice for people of all professions. But in the world of sports, a tweet could make or break a career or stop it from getting started in the first place. That’s why high school football coach Steve Mask has assigned an assistant with the specific task of monitoring players’ social media accounts. Mask coaches at St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Ala., the school that produced Crimson Tide quarterbacks AJ McCarron and Jake Coker. College coaches are looking more closely at the social media presence of potential recruits. Penn State offensive line coach Herb Hand recently vented on Twitter about a former recruit: “Dropped another prospect this AM due to his social media presence. … Actually glad I got to see the ‘real’ person before we offered him,” he tweeted. Hand said statuses or tweets that degrade women, reference drug use, or constitute cyberbullying are “things you don’t want to be a part of your program.” Duke coach David Cutcliffe said when he sees a potential recruit saying something indiscreet or just plain offensive on the internet, he immediately makes a phone call to have the recruit dropped from the database: “It’s just insane what some of them think’s okay.”

Kim Kardashian to release book of selfies

Socialite Kim Kardashian has a new money-making scheme: a book containing nothing but her selfies. The 325-page hardcover tome is set to come out in April 2015 and will cost $19.95. The idea apparently came from Kardashian’s idea to give a book of “sexy” photos to her husband Kanye West for Valentine’s Day. “It ended up turning out so cool that we came up with this idea to do a book, a selfie book,” she revealed on her family’s TV show,Keeping Up With the Kardashians. She revealed that some of the pictures will be “super-racy.” “I mean, every girl takes full pictures of their [rear] in the mirror. … I might share some of them.”

Fake Yahoo! News tweet prompts Ebola scare

Foul play with the Yahoo! News Twitter account caused a stir Sunday when the following tweet appeared on the site’s feed: “BREAKING: EBOLA OUTBREAK IN ATLANTA! Estimated 145 people infected so far since Doctors carrying the disease were flown in from Africa.” The tweet only remained online for about 20 minutes and was followed by a request to “please disregard that tweet.” Yahoo! News didn’t say their account was hacked, but called the message “an unauthorized tweet with misinformation.” While the tweet was up, more than 900 people retweeted it. Some people commented on the tweet saying “change your password.” Emory Healthcare spokesman Vincent Dollard reportedly greeted the news of the false tweet with a sigh. “Wow,” he said.

A robber with a fondness for hats

New York police are on the hunt for a bank robber who wears many hats. Police say the man has committed eight bank robberies in Nassau County over the course of two and a half months. As shown in surveillance photos, the robber’s wacky choices in headpieces have included a floppy white hat, a hat with a long wig attached, and a baseball hat with a picture of Barack Obama on it. Another defining trait of the stickup artist? He gives bank tellers a note threatening violence and demanding cash. Police believe it’s the same robber in all the photos.
