Clinton joins recount effort
Hillary Clinton’s campaign team plans to participate in the Wisconsin recount of presidential votes, Clinton attorney Marc Elias said today. Since the election, the Democratic candidate’s staff has quietly researched rumors that votes were hacked in key battleground states. Acting on those allegations, Green Party candidate Jill Stein on Friday officially requested a recount in Wisconsin. Elias acknowledged in a post on Medium.com that the recount likely wouldn’t change the results of the election, but said the Clinton team wanted to “ensure the process proceeds in a manner that is fair to all sides.” Stein said she also wanted recounts in Pennsylvania and Michigan, and Elias said Clinton would support those, too, if they occurred. President-elect Donald Trump has not officially responded to the recount effort, but his campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, mocked it on Twitter earlier this week, saying, “Look who ‘can’t accept the election results,’” a reference to earlier criticisms against Trump’s possibly contesting the vote if he lost.
