Chemical watchdog agency confirms sarin gas used on Syrian town

Investigators from an international chemical weapons watchdog agency on Friday confirmed that sarin gas was used in an April 4 attack in Syria. The attack on the town of Khan Sheikhoun killed more than 90 people and triggered international backlash as photos of victims circulated online. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said it took biomedical samples from 10 victims and interviewed witnesses during its investigation and is forwarding its findings to a joint United Nations–OPCW investigation team, which will attempt to uncover the perpetrators. The White House this week warned that the Syrian regime is carrying out “potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack.” Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad denied the accusation.
