CDC releases reopening guidelines
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released single-page “decision tool” documents on Thursday to direct businesses and other establishments through safe reopening procedures during the coronavirus pandemic. The guidance includes specific recommendations for schools, workplaces, camps, child care centers, mass transit systems, bars, and restaurants but not churches.
Will Americans follow the guidelines? Residents in some states are expressing increased frustration with extended lockdowns. Hundreds of protesters showed up in the rain to demonstrate outside the Michigan Capitol in Lansing again on Thursday. Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s stay-at-home order is effective until at least May 28. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, also a Democrat, worried the abrupt end of the state’s shutdown had caused “massive confusion.” After the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned Evers’ stay-at-home order on Wednesday, some bars immediately reopened as local leaders moved to implement their own rules.
