Canada announces investigation into possible Chinese election interference
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Monday he would be appointing an independent rapporteur to look into the matter, and see if further public investigation would be warranted. Trudeau also said he would assign a parliamentary national security committee to investigate classified information about possible Chinese election interference.
Why are they worried about Chinese election interference? The announcement comes after Canadian media reports said intelligence officials believe China interfered with the country’s last two federal parliamentary elections. China has denied the accusations.
