Californians put legal pot vote on November ballot
California became the ninth state to put a recreational marijuana referendum on the ballot this year after the measure’s supporters turned in enough petition signatures to secure a Nov. 8 vote. If passed, the measure would allow Californians to possess up to 1 oz. of marijuana and grow up to six plants without penalty. Supporters have raised $3.7 million so far to help encourage voters to back the ballot measure. Colorado, Washington, Alaska, and Oregon already allow recreational marijuana use. But success in California is far from guaranteed: In 2010, 53 percent of California voters rejected a similar pot legalization measure.
