Cable, streaming services dominate top TV awards
Cable network HBO had a big night at the Emmy Awards on Sunday, taking home top awards for best television drama and comedy. Game of Thrones won in the best drama category for the second year in a row, and Veep won the top comedy prize. The People vs. O.J. Simpson, an FX miniseries, also earned awards for almost everyone involved in its production. The award ceremony highlighted the trend away from the major broadcast networks, which only took four of the 27 awards. HBO and FX took six each. Netflix won three, and Amazon won two. CBS, the most-watched broadcast network, didn’t win any awards.
