British police charge teen in subway bombing

British police have charged an 18-year-old man in connection to last week’s explosion on a subway train that injured 30 people. The Metropolitan Police said Ahmed Hassan is accused of attempting to “murder persons traveling on a District Line train,” and using a chemical compound known as TATP to cause an explosion likely to kill. He will appear before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday afternoon. Authorities arrested Hassan on Saturday at Dover, a major port for ferries heading to France. On Sept. 15, a homemade bomb hidden in a supermarket bag partly exploded during morning rush hour on a train stopped at London’s Parsons Green station. London police Chief Cressida Dick on Friday said the bomb included shrapnel and could have been worse. Three other male suspects remain in police custody.
