Britain welcomes royal baby girl
It’s a princess for Britain’s Prince William and wife Kate. Royal officials reported that Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth this morning to a girl, the couple’s second child.
The baby weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces, and was born at 8:34 a.m. local time in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London. Both mother and baby were doing well, the palace said, and William was present for the birth.
A town crier appeared outside the Lindo Wing this morning to announce the birth to the delight of fans camped outside. Cheers and chants of “Princess! Princess!” broke out after the announcement.
The princess, whose name has not been released, will be fourth in line for the throne after her grandfather, Prince Charles, her father, and her older brother, Prince George, who was born in July 2013. William, 32, and Kate, 33, wed in 2011. The public likely will get its first view of the baby when the family leaves the hospital and pauses outside for pictures, in keeping with royal tradition.
