Boko Haram kills 15 people in Sunday attack

ABUJA, Nigeria—At least 15 people died and 83 others sustained injuries when Nigerian security forces clashed with Boko Haram militants in the northeastern city of Maiduguri on Sunday. The Nigerian military said the clashes occurred in the Bille Shuwa and Alkaranti villages as government troops tried to prevent the militants from advancing. The Islamist fighters responded with gunfire and multiple explosive devices. Army spokesman Col. Onyema Nwachukwu confirmed the injuries and casualties, including 13 insurgents and one soldier, and said the militants also tried to target locals: “It is clear that the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists are hell-bent on remaining relevant by attacking soft and vulnerable targets.”
