Baseball star gives $9 million property to Christian camp

A major league baseball player is pitching in to help chronically ill and special needs children. Texas Rangers pitcher Cole Hamels and his wife, Heidi, are donating a mansion and 100 acres of land in southwest Missouri to Camp Barnabas, a Christian charity that provides camps for people with disabilities. The 32,000 square-foot home is worth more than $9 million. The four-time All-Star said in a statement, “Seeing the faces, hearing the laughter, reading the stories of the kids they serve; there is truly nothing like it.” The couple built the mansion believing it would be their dream home. But when Hamels was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Rangers in 2015, the family decided to permanently move to Texas and never used the Missouri house.
