Australian bus crash kills 10 wedding guests
The bus driver is being held and will appear in court Tuesday to face multiple charges of dangerous and negligent driving, police said. The bus on Sunday night rolled over at a roundabout in the town of Greta, in the Australian wine country north of Sydney. Twenty-five people were taken to the hospital, and one was in critical condition. The group was traveling back to their lodgings after attending a wedding at a wine estate. The exact cause of the crash, and whether passengers were wearing their seatbelts, is being investigated, said Police Commissioner Karen Webb.
How does this crash rank among Australian crashes? It’s the country’s most deadly traffic crash in nearly three decades, police said. In 1994, 12 people died when a bus skidded on its side and down a deep embankment in Brisbane.
