Attacks increase ahead of Ramadan

Israeli forces raided a refugee camp in the West Bank on Thursday, injuring 15 people and killing two Palestinians. Israel said the troops were targeting militant networks at the Jenin camp. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported two men, a 17-year-old and a 23-year-old, died in the ensuing gun battle. The Palestinian Authority coordinates with Israel on West Bank security, but Israeli forces said the Palestinians have little control over the Jenin camp.

Why have there been more attacks? In a separate incident, a Palestinian stabbed a young Israeli man on a bus in the West Bank. Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced Thursday his government will spend $56 million in emergency funding for more police officers and equipment. Israeli, Jordanian, and Palestinian leaders have held several meetings in recent weeks and announced goodwill gestures to maintain peace while Muslims observe Ramadan, which begins this weekend.
