At least 40 dead in South Korea after rainstorm

Heavy rain continued on Monday while rescue crews searched for survivors. The country has experienced days of torrential rains that caused floods and landslides. Authorities say flooding and rains injured at least 34 other people, and that thousands more had to evacuate their homes.

What has this looked like on the ground? In the central city of Cheongju on Monday, rescue teams were working to pull survivors and victims out of a tunnel that flooded, trapping vehicles and their passengers. A team of nearly 900 rescue workers had rescued some survivors while recovering more than a dozen dead bodies.
