Arizona Senate repeals near-total protection for unborn babies

The Arizona Senate on Wednesday voted to repeal the 1864 law, which protected all unborn babies from abortion except to save the mother’s life. The Arizona House of Representatives voted to repeal the law last week after the state’s Supreme Court ruled that it could be enforced.

What happens now? Arizona’s Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs is expected to also sign the repeal, entirely eliminating the statute. Unborn babies will still be protected after 15 weeks of gestation.
