Another American hit by mystery illness in Cuba

Another U.S. Embassy worker in Cuba has fallen sick following mysterious symptoms that have now affected 25 people, the U.S. State Department confirmed Thursday. Spokeswoman Heather Nauert said the worker is one of two people recently evacuated from Cuba after they reported symptoms. Doctors are still evaluating the second worker, Nauert said. The latest confirmed case is the first since August 2017. The incidents began in late 2016, but authorities have not been able to confirm the source or cause of the attacks. Affected patients reported symptoms including sharp ear pain, vertigo, and nausea, among others. Cuba has repeatedly denied responsibility for the incidents. In May, a U.S. Consulate worker in China reported similar symptoms, sparking concerns the attacks have started to spread.
