Americans among the dead, injured in Kabul attack
Several Americans died and others sustained injuries in the weekend Taliban siege on the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul, Afghanistan, the U.S. State Department confirmed Tuesday. “We offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed and wish for speedy recovery of those wounded,” the department said in a statement. “Out of respect for the families of the deceased, we have no further comment.” Afghan officials said the 13-hour siege that began Saturday night in the capital city killed 22 people, including 14 foreigners. Some of the foreign casualties include nationals from Ukraine, Germany, Venezuela, and Kazakhstan. More than 150 other people, including 41 foreigners, escaped or were rescued by Afghan forces.
