Maine mass shooting suspect found dead after aircraft, divers search river
Mass shooting suspect Robert Card was found dead at a recycling center where he had worked near the Androscoggin River from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said Friday night. The discovery came hours after aircraft, divers and sonar equipment were deployed to search the river. Card’s vehicle had been found near a boat dock on the river. Maine Commissioner of Public Safety Michael Sauschuck said Friday morning that a note found by investigators on Thursday was of interest to the case, but he declined to discuss who wrote the note or its contents.
Who is Card? Card was declared a person of interest in the shooting and killing of 18 people on Wednesday night. Authorities said he was a U.S. Army reservist and weapons instructor.
