Air National Guardsman indicted for classified document leak

The grand jury’s indictment on Thursday alleged that 21-year-old Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira willfully removed and transmitted classified information related to national security. The FBI arrested Teixeira in April, and a federal judge in May decided that he would remain in prison while awaiting trial.

What information did Teixeira disclose? Teixeira sometimes transcribed information that he would disseminate in a group chat on the Discord messaging app. Other times, he posted photographs of the classified information in the chat. Some of the information discussed U.S. aid to Ukraine, as well as military capabilities in Ukraine and around the world.

Dig deeper: Read Carolina Lumetta’s report in The Stew about how Teixeira’s leak exposed problems with oversharing classified information.
