ACC joins ‘bathroom bill’ protest
The Atlantic Coast Conference voted today to follow the NCAA’s lead and pull all championship games out of North Carolina to protest the state law requiring people to use the restroom that corresponds to the sex on their birth certificate. The ACC football title game had been scheduled for Charlotte in December. The decision includes all championship games this school year, but the ACC Council of Presidents said the contests will not return to the Tar Heel state until legislators repeal the law. The ACC and the NCAA followed the NBA’s lead in moving games out of North Carolina to protest HB2. The NBA announced in July it would move next year’s All-Star game from Charlotte to New Orleans.
