10 injured in shooting outside New York nightclub
New York Police on Thursday morning were looking for three or four male suspects who allegedly shot and injured 10 people, said Department Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera. The New Year’s Day shooting occurred late Wednesday night outside a nightclub in Queens, Rivera said. The victims—six females and four males—ranged in age from 16 to 20. The victims were taken to hospitals for treatment, Rivera said. He said it was not a terrorist attack, but police are investigating the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.
What happened? A private event was being held on the second floor of the nightclub, he said. Roughly 90 people were at the event, and the building was at full capacity. About 15 other people stood in a line outside the venue’s doors, Rivera said. The shooting suspects were walking down the street when they passed the group standing outside and opened fire, shooting around 30 shots in total. The suspects fled on foot before piling into a light-colored sedan with out-of-state plates before fleeing the scene. Rivera asked for the public’s assistance in finding the shooters.
