MARY REICHARD, HOST: A Kenyan runner laced up in London last weekend to make marathon history.
AUDIO: Nobody’s ever done this, they said it couldn’t be done!
Sebastian Sawe averaged just about 4 minutes and 33 seconds per mile for 26.2 of them.
AUDIO: An historic performance! 1:59.30! Absolutely incredible, I’ve never seen anything like that.
It marked the first time anyone has ever gone under 2 hours in a sanctioned full marathon.
Some say it was all about the shoes, a feat of engineering, so to speak, providing energy return and running economy, weighing no more than a deck of cards.
But for Sawe, it was a matter of chasing down a dream.
SAWE: I've shown them everything is possible with the matter of time.
It’s The World and Everything in It.
