George H.W. Bush to lie in state at U.S. Capitol » Former President George H.W. Bush will lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda this week. Leaders from both parties announced plans for an arrival ceremony for the former president today at 5 p.m. The public is invited to pay respects from then until Wednesday morning.

Meantime tributes poured in for the nation’s 41st president. James Baker is a former White House chief of staff and secretary of state to the late the president. He said even though Bush served only one-term, his accomplishments were undeniable.

BAKER: He really got a lot done, and he did it with great skill. He knew foreign policy. He understood it. He managed the end of the Cold War peacefully. It ended with a whimper, not a bang. 

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Bush 41. He called his former boss a “perfect American.”

POWELL: He was a patriot. He demonstrated that in war. He demonstrated that peace. 

President George H.W. Bush died on Friday at the age of 94.

TRUMP: What I’d be doing is I’d be holding back on tariffs. China will be opening up. China will be getting rid of tariffs. China right now has major trade barriers. 

President Trump agreed to hold off on plans to raise tariffs on January 1st on $200 billion in Chinese goods. The Chinese agreed to buy what the president called a “not yet agreed upon, but very substantial amount of agricultural, energy, industrial” and other products from the U.S.

The truce came over the weekend, after a dinner meeting between President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping at the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires.

Macron holds emergency meeting over violent protests » French President Emmanuel Macron has asked his interior minister to consider changing security procedures to try to contain ongoing protests over rising taxes.

Macron’s office issued a statement after an emergency security meeting at the presidential palace Sunday. Over the weekend, some demonstrations turned violent, causing the worst riots in Paris in a decade.

Police used water cannons and tear gas to beat back protesters.

More than 130 people were injured, including 23 police officers. Authorities arrested almost 400 protestors.

While some demonstrations were peaceful, this was the third straight weekend of violent clashes involving activists calling themselves the “Yellow Jackets.”

College football playoffs set » College football’s final four is now set.

Over the weekend the Clemson Tigers won their fourth straight ACC title, knocking off Pittsburgh. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney told reporters…

Clemson will face undefeated Notre Dame on December 29th.

Meantime Big 12 champion Oklahoma will face SEC champion Alabama in the other College Football Playoff game. Both of those teams won their conference title games on Saturday.

The Alabama Crimson Tide will be going for their second straight national title and their sixth in the last decade.
