NICK EICHER, HOST: 10-year-old Tamarion Wilson is a well-trained, polite young man. When he addresses adults, it’s yes ma’am, yes sir or no ma’am, no sir.
But his teacher at North East Carolina Preparatory School had a different set of standards.
And young Tamarion had a problem meeting them. So he found himself in trouble.
His mom told WTVD television that it wasn’t for fighting, talking back or disrupting class…
AUDIO: So asked him what happened and he told me he got in trouble for saying yes ma’am.
The 5th grade teacher had instructed students not to refer to her as ma’am or sir. But Tamarion’s training at home got the better of him, and he addressed her politely.
As punishment, the teacher made him write “ma’am” on a sheet of paper nearly 200 times. This to teach him not to use that word with her.
Tamarion’s parents met with the school principal and had him moved to another class.
