WORLD Radio - Kicker: Work for the birds

MARY REICHARD, HOST: A popular French theme park has discovered a new source of cheap labor. It’s challenged a group of employees to pick up cigarette butts and other small bits of trash. And the workers are willing to work for food.

The Puy du Fou theme park in Vendee, France is training a group of six crows to do the dirty work at the end of the day.

But they don’t seem to mind!

Each time they drop a bit of garbage into a designated box, they’re rewarded with bird seed.

These aren’t ordinary crows. These are rooks, and they are highly intelligent.

And even more important, they have a strong work ethic!

It’s The World and Everything in It.
