Kicker: Why did the donkey cross the road?

MARY REICHARD, HOST: You’ve heard about the chicken crossing the road?

Well, police on Interstate 90 near Chicago didn’t get a call about that.

But they did get a call about this.

AUDIO: 72-12 County — There’s a donkey in the middle of I-90. I am in the middle of the expressway with a donkey. Come on.

Bodycam footage shows a bewildered Cook County officer calling in for some extra help.

Turns out the animal—named Dusty—was on his way to a petting zoo. But the driver didn’t secure the trailer properly and he fell out onto the busy highway. Incredibly, he wasn’t injured.

The Cook County Sheriff’s facebook page had some fun with the story. “Shrek was nowhere to be found…but we did find Donkey yesterday in the middle of I-90.”

Happily, Dusty is now safely home.
