WORLD Radio - Kicker: Vegetable surprise

MARY REICHARD, HOST: A little practical joking never hurt anybody. Especially if it gets someone to eat their greens, right?

Scottish singer Judy Brown devised a way to hoodwink her dad into eating a vegetable he despises.

Christmas 2016 she wrapped up Brussels sprouts in those foil wrappers those chocolate balls—Ferrero Rocher—come in. Dear old dad fell for it and chomped down on a dreaded sprout.

Not one to be fooled twice, he just refused to eat sweets Christmas 2017.

Ms. Brown bided her time until Christmas 2018, where she devised a more elaborate scheme to reel him in.

This time she dipped the Brussels sprouts in chocolate, coated them in chopped nuts and then wrapped them in the gold foil. She glued the box shut so it looked like a brand new box of chocolates.

Dad fell for it.

Brown wrote on Twitter: “I know his retribution will be swift and terrible, but no Christmas gift could be greater than this: seeing my Dad, despite his efforts to avoid it, unwittingly eat a raw sprout.”

BASHAM: I love this, and I want this woman to be my new best friend.

REICHARD: It’s The World and Everything in It.
