WORLD Radio - Kicker: The wrong wine

MARY REICHARD, HOST: People who earn a living as wait staff have plenty of opportunity to get things wrong. Mix up an order. Slide a plate across the wrong table.  It happens all the time!

But for a waitress at Hawksmoor Manchester steakhouse in England, the mistake happened in an expensive and public way.

It was a busy night. Orders shuttled from the kitchen to a packed house. One table ordered a rather expensive vintage—a $330 bottle of red wine.

But the server grabbed the wrong bottle.

And it was only after the wine was swirling in glasses that she realized—in horror—the mistake she made.

She’d inadvertently served up a $5,000 bottle of wine.

Management showed grace.  The boss told her on the restaurant’s Twitter account, “chin up! One-off mistakes happen and we love you anyway.”

No sour grapes there.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
