WORLD Radio - Kicker: The cement empress

MARY REICHARD, HOST: A young woman in China is turning heads over her creative choice of materials for a wedding dress.

28-year-old Tan Lili stitched 40 empty cement bags into an intricate dress with a long, flowing train.

Her dress quickly went viral online with fans calling her “the cement empress”

Lili is not a designer. She’s a farmer. She said she wasn’t trying to create a buzz around her dress. She just saw the empty bags one day and imagined an artistic use for them.

But Lili won’t be walking down the aisle in her creation. She’s already married. And it’s unclear what she plans to do with the dress.

So if you or a loved one are planning a wedding … you might give her a call or … maybe just swing by your local Home Depot!

It’s The World and Everything in It.
