MARY REICHARD, HOST: A half-marathon runner finished 7th in a race in Alabama last month. An impressive finish because she had never run a half-marathon before or even trained for one.
In fact, despite the chorus of running shoes pulsing on the pavement all around her, she didn’t even realize she was in a race!
That makes sense when you consider that the runner was just two-and-a-half years old. … And a bloodhound.
The canine distance runner is named Ludivine, and her home just happens to be close to the starting line.
When her owner let her outside to take care of business, she saw the runners and decided to join them.
Ludivine finished in the Top 10 despite a couple of important stops: there was a dead rabbit and herd of cows that needed to be sniffed before returning to the race. Now that’s impressive!
