WORLD Radio - Kicker: Stuck in a vault

MARY REICHARD, HOST: This one’s not for the claustrophobic among us.

Two teenagers in Florida were doing what teen boys do: exploring a vacant bank building. Then one of the guys got stuck. Stuck inside the vault. And, as you know, nothing gets in, nothing gets out, including air.

So his buddy called 911 and help arrived, but it wasn’t so easy getting the vault door open. High security and all, right?

Firefighters tried to drill through a wall. Didn’t work.

They called the vault maker to learn how to dismantle the steel door that is two feet thick. No dice.

Then one of the bank’s employees at the new bank across the street heard about the problem. That person remembered the secret code to crack the vault and open the massive door.

Authorities released the teens to their parents and they didn’t file charges.

This seems like one where you don’t lock ’em up again.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
