Kicker: Snow survivor

MARY REICHARD, HOST: Michelle Richan was driving from northern Nevada back to her home near Ogden, Utah, when she turned down a frozen country road.

There was no way she could’ve seen what lay ahead: a mud-filled crater hidden under fresh blanket of snow. As her tires spun and her car stood still, Michelle did the sensible thing and grabbed her cell phone.

But no service.

The hours turned to days inside her car.

Maybe you’re panicking just hearing this, but Richan didn’t.

RICHAN: I had my big trunk that’s in the back of my car that has all my survival gear in it. I had Pepsi and I had chocolate milk and my cooler had all my fruit and stuff in it.

A week after she got stuck, a pilot spotted her from the air.

She has some advice for those who venture off the beaten path:

RICHAN: If you can’t survive out there, don’t go out there.
