WORLD Radio - Kicker: Rowing across the ocean

MARY REICHARD, HOST: A high school teacher from Ohio broke a world record this month.

Bryce Carlson rowed 2,000 miles from Canada’s Newfoundland to England’s Isles of Scilly—in 38 days.

The 37-year-old described the feat as physically and mentally demanding. He capsized numerous times.

Now he has to get used to life on land again.

CARLSON: My head is still a little foggy. Things are coming—I think my head is still processing things a little slower than it might normally, so—you know, there’s a reacclimation period to trust real life, and I think it’ll take a little time.

Carlson said his official time across the Atlantic beat the prior record by 15 days. But before he can claim the new record, the Guiness Book of World Records must certify it.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
