Kicker: Mystery unsolved

MARY REICHARD, HOST: A delighted library director in New Hampshire got the privilege of opening up a 50-year old time capsule, a steel safe sealed shut in 1969. 

Carry Potter told WMUR…

POTTER: Nobody touched it until last spring.

Library staffers gathered in anticipation as Potter dialed the combination and opened the safe.  

Maybe you recall this moment in 1986 when Geraldo Rivera opened Al Capone’s vault. Live, on national television.

RIVERA: It seems at least up to now that we’ve struck out with the vault. I’m disappointed about that, as I’m sure you are.

Poor Carry Potter endured the same anti-climactic fate as did Geraldo. She guessed someone cracked the safe and stole the contents somewhere along the way.

POTTER: It could have happened any point in there. We’ve even speculated that nothing actually got put in there in the first place. We just don’t know.

Like Al Capone’s vault, mystery unsolved.
