MARY REICHARD, HOST: Technology’s great when it works.
But when it doesn’t? Not so great.
Drivers trying to get to Denver International Airport on time to catch a plane got held up in a traffic jam. An accident slowed things down to the point many turned to Google Maps for an alternate way to get to the airport.
They soon found themselves on a dirt road. But recent heavy rain had turned it to mud. And the heavy traffic transformed it into a sludgy parking lot.
Connie Monsees told KMGH that she and about 100 other drivers had no idea what they were steering into.
MONSEES: Why did Google send us out there to begin with. It just didn’t make any sense. There was no turning back once you were there.
Good thing she had a more useful kind of high-tech in her car: all-wheel drive. So not only did she get out of the muck, but she did a good turn and delivered a few lower-tech drivers to the airport.
It’s The World and Everything in It.
