MARY REICHARD, HOST: Sharon Gongwer of Goshen, Indiana has finally received a postcard mailed from California 60 years ago.
GONGWER: This was written by my mother who was traveling, oh just traveling around and went to California.
The postcard was hand-delivered last week by the manager of a Goshen motel. She’d found it tucked away in a drawer while cleaning out cabinets.
No one knows how it got there.
Dated August 26, 1958— the well-preserved postcard describes her mother’s adventures in Southern California. The postage was three cents.
“It’s a touch of my mother,” Gongwer said. “I don’t have many of her things anymore.”
Gongwer’s mother Mary passed away in 1973.
