WORLD Radio - Kicker: Katfish

MARY REICHARD, HOST: Well, to each his own.

But one man in Kansas City took that a bit too far.

Sean Casey faced eviction from his home earlier this month. When eviction officers showed up they were surprised to meet up with an unusual additional tenant: a seven foot long, 200-pound alligator.

The gator, named “Katfish,” could roam freely around the house. But he spent most of his time in his custom-built tub.

CASEY: I built him a ramp to get back in his tank, because he’s a big lizard. He was gonna come out and play. He likes to come out and sit. Oddly enough, he liked to come sit on my lap. He smiled.

Problem is, Kansas City doesn’t allow pet alligators.

Casey must pay a fine for keeping Katfish within city limits, but he vows to get his pet gator back someday.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
