MARY REICHARD, HOST: Police in New Jersey got a call about a suspicious character wandering down a neighborhood street.

Officers arrived to find a fugitive on the move. But this was a low-speed chase.

The suspect was a large tortoise.

Monroe Township police set out in pursuit—on foot. And according to their official report, quoting here, “We won—the suspect was safely taken into custody.” Police even posed for pictures with their catch. Eventually, the owners came forward and took him home.

Reminding us all of the old fable about the tortoise and the hare … Except, this time the tortoise lost. Apparently, the police didn’t stop for a nap.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
