WORLD Radio - Kicker: Hurricane Hawkins

MARY REICHARD, HOST: 102-year-old Julia “Hurricane” Hawkins is still going strong— and fast.

Before a cheering crowd, she recently set a world record for the 60-meter dash in the women’s 100-plus age category.

Also at the USA Track and Field event in Landover, Maryland— 100-year old Orville Rogers set a record for men in the 60-meter dash. Rogers was a World War 2 bomber pilot.

“Hurricane” Hawkins says she runs for her children— her staying in shape makes them happy— and that makes her happy.

If that doesn’t get you off the couch— nothing will.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
