Kicker: Getaway tractor

MARY REICHARD, HOST: Sometimes a guy just needs to get away.

NICK EICHER, HOST: Yeah, he does.

REICHARD: Just a guy and his tractor. 

Evidently, that’s how Kenneth Allen felt about it last Thursday evening just north of Minneapolis. 

Problem is, Kenneth is only 2 ½ years old and he didn’t tell anybody.

His mom called 911 when she realized he’d gone missing.

LYNN ALLEN: Just scared and like what was going through my mind is someone actually took him…

The dispatcher told the Chisago County Sheriff’s deputies who to look for. Here’s Sergeant Jason Foster:

FOSTER: Me and my partner converged over on this area and sure enough there he was on his little John Deere battery powered tractor…He had the brightest red hair. You couldn’t miss this little guy.

Yeah, and once sighted, he wasn’t too tough to catch up with. Little Kenneth chugged along at just 1 mile per hour to reach the fair two blocks away from his house. 

Of course everyone involved felt great relief that the youngun was safe. But his dad Kristopher decided to err on the side of caution, and so he popped the battery out of the John Deere, just for the next week.

KRISTOPHER ALLEN: Kids will be kids. Things will happen. It is what it is. I’m not mad at him, I just, you know, next time, hey, stay in the yard.
