WORLD Radio - Kicker: Curious cat

MARY REICHARD, HOST: Curiosity almost killed a cat who went exploring on top of a dam in Indiana.

A fisherman on spotted the dark gray feline stranded on the spillway.

Officers couldn’t reach the animal, so Army Corps of Engineers workers decided to help.

Engineer Ryan Martin said they got permission to shut down the flow of water and then launched a boat.

MARTIN: The cat was up probably 50 to 75 feet, stuck on the crest gates, kind of just sitting there scared. And with a little bit of coaxing we got him to slide down.

Video shows the kitty sliding down the icy surface, into the hands of a rescuer who reached out and nabbed the cat just inches from the water.

The wayward cat is safe and sound—just in case you were wondering why these creatures are said to have nine lives.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
