Kicker: Compassionate strangers

KENT COVINGTON, HOST: Ten days ago, tragedy struck in Saskatchewan, Canada. That’s when the Humboldt Broncos hockey team bus collided with a semi, killing 16 people.

Kevin Garinger— president of the young men’s amateur team— described the loss.

GARINGER: This is certainly a provincial, a national and even a global traumatic event.

The tragedy has captured the hearts of hockey-obsessed Canada. A GoFundMe page set up to help victims’ families has raised a whopping $12 million.

The response has been so overwhelming that the team will take down the page tonight. It’s assembling a committee to decide how to use the money.

Garinger said— “Our families and our entire organization has been blessed to feel this love from people from around the globe.”
