WORLD Radio - Kicker: Coffee at a medieval feast

MEGAN BASHAM, HOST: One of the least offensive images on HBO’s violent and vile Game of Thrones turns out to be the most controversial.

Now, this is what’s known in the trade as a continuity error.

Somebody left a very modern take-out coffee cup in a scene showing a medieval feast.

Viewers complained, can you believe it? Beheadings. Impalings. All-around bloodlettings, no calls. Let a latte wander in, though, and that’s what makes the phones light up.

HBO tried to make light and laugh at itself. A PR person admitted the errant latte was a mistake and quipped that the actress had instead ordered an herbal tea.

I just have to say, $15 million per episode and you’d think you could afford to have someone–maybe even a lot of someones–on coffee cup patrol.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
