WORLD Radio - Kicker: Bridge scandal

MARY REICHARD, HOST: Lance Armstrong, Marion Jones, Barry Bonds…

What do these athletes have in common? Performance-enhancing drugs, that’s what. And legacies stained after they were found out.

And now we can add one more name to that list: Geir Helgemo.

What, you don’t recognize that name?

Well, he is the latest world champion in his field of competition to be suspended for using banned substances.

He tested positive for synthetic testosterone and a female fertility drug. At the same time.

But Helgemo insists those drugs did not enhance his performance and in no way helped him to become a world champion at playing cards.

Still, the World Bridge Federation revoked his accomplishments last year and banned him from bridge competition for one year.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
