Kicker: An unfortunate mix-up

MARY REICHARD, HOST: It seemed to be a smooth, uneventful flight for passengers flying from London to Dusseldorf on British Airways Monday.

The plane took off on time, and nearly an hour and half later it landed. So it was smooth, but it was hardly uneventful:

You see, the plane didn’t land in Dusseldorf. It landed in the wrong city. Worse, it landed in the wrong country.

Imagine the reaction in the cabin as the captain said welcome to Edinburgh, Scotland!

Yep, 500 miles away from the destination on the tickets.

The airline said the problem started when someone filed an incorrect flight plan. The pilot just followed it to Edinburgh, as did air traffic control who was following the same flight plan. They saw nothing wrong.

The airline calls it an “unfortunate mix-up.”

EICHER: I just hope the passengers get credit for the extra frequent-flyer miles!
